Volleyball: Owls Fall To SMU

Kelly Smith paced the Owls with 16 kills on 53 attacks. Smith's attacks raised her season total to 1,019, launching her into eighth on the Rice season record list. Klara Zelinka added 11 kills and led the team with 17 digs. Soleil Thon posted 20 assists and 15 digs for the Owls, and Courtney Smith knocked down a career-high nine blocks.
For SMU, four Mustangs recorded double-digit kills, including Melissa Godwin and Erin Pryor with 15 each. Leslie Olson quarterbacked SMU with 56 assists and 15 digs, and Kelly Klecka led the defensive attack with 18 digs. Godwin added eight blocks for the Mustangs.
Rice drops to 10-15 on the season, and 1-6 in the WAC, while SMU climbs to 14-10, and 3-2 in the conference.
The Owls will look to improve their league record Saturday at 3 pm at Autry Court when they face TCU.
