Richardson, a senior from Allen, Texas (Allen HS), rushed for 163 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries and completed three of six passes for 74 yards and two more scores in the win over the Horned Frogs. Richardson is Rice's leading rusher this year with 612 yards, with 523 of them having come during the Owls' current five-game winning streak.
Fresno State defensive end Giachino Chiaramonte and UTEP placekicker Ricky Bishop were named the defensive and special teams players of the week, respectively.
Chiaramonte, a junior from Santa Cruz, Calif. (Soquel HS), had three solo tackles, three assisted tackles, one fumble recovery and two pass break-ups in Fresno State's 24-23 overtime win versus UTEP. One of his solo tackles came when UTEP went for a two-point conversion and the win in overtime. Chiaramonte tackled UTEP's Elzie Johnson on the one-yard line to preserve the Bulldog victory.
Bishop, a junior from El Paso, Texas (Austin HS), made all three of his field goal attempts (23, 31, 18) in UTEP's loss at Fresno State. It was his second three-field goal performance of his career, and he has now moved into a tie for 12th place on the Miner's all-time career scoring list with 124 points.
