Volleyball: Owls Fall At San Jose

Rice was anchored by Kelly Smith's 14-kill, 9-dig performance and by Klara Zelinka who also notched 14 kills for the Owls. Soleil Thon and Mariel Davenport Pollock split quarterback time for Rice, putting up 22 and 14 assists, respectively. Briana Cook paced the Owls' defensive effort, contributing a career-high nine blocks to the team total of 13.5.
For San Jose State, three Spartans collected double-doubles, including Joslynn Gallop led who led the attack with 19 kills and 11 digs. Brianna Blair nocked down 17 kills and 13 digs, and Michelle Sarkees had 43 assists and 11 digs. Gallop hit .548 for the Spartans, and Blair swung .389.
San Jose State extended its winning streak to 14 matches, improving to 18-1 on the season and 4-0 in the WAC. The Owls drop to 8-14 and 0-5 in the conference.
The Owls will return to Autry Court Thursday at 7:40 pm when they take take a break from conference play to take on Sam Houston State.
