Volleyball: Rice Falls To Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. The Rice volleyball team fell to Fresno State Friday night in a 4-15, 10-15, 15-4, 3-15 decision.
The Owls were led by Kelly Smith who posted 14 kills, nine digs and served four aces. Briana Cook hit .563, knocking down 10 kills and five blocks. Klara Zelinka added seven kills and 10 digs and Soleil Thon had her ninth double-double of the season with 22 assists and 11 digs.
Fresno State was guided by Anamie Buckelew, who hit .400 with 19 kills and nine digs. Kristin Pierpont and Shauna McQuaid both notched double-digit kills for the Bulldogs with 14 and 16, respectively. Diann Aufdermaur set up 48 assists and Malia Malu dug 17 attacks.
The Owls drop to 8-13 on the season and 0-4 in the WAC, while the Bulldogs improve to 7-9 and 1-2 in conference play.
Rice will travel to San Jose, Calif., tomorrow to take on San Jose State at 9:30 pm (7:30 pm PDT).
