DENVER Rice junior Lachlan McArthur was named the Western Athletic Conference men's cross country athlete of the week on Wednesday.
A native of Melbourne, Australia, McArthur finished second at the Texas A&M Invitational last Friday in College Station. He ran the five-mile course in a time of 25:33, finishing just 15 seconds behind TCU's David Lagat.
Aided by McArthur's finish, the Owls claimed a 10-point win ahead of Texas and 14 other schools in what was being called a preview to the NCAA district championships which will take place next month in Denton.
Rice's next meet is Saturday at the Arkansas Chili Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville. The men's race will begin at 9:30 am.
