Ken Hatfield's Tuesday Quotes

On San Jose State "Four weeks in a row, they're scoring 35, 38, 34 and 44 points. Last week (in a 42-0 loss at TCU), they came down from an awful high they had in beating Stanford the week before. They didn't play as good as they are capable of playing.
"They have already had good success this year as a team. We know what they are capable of doing, and we have to be prepared for them coming back with a different attitude than what they had last week.
"A key to beating them this week is to stay focused. When you come back from a game and a trip like we had, the great memories will last forever. But now is the time to get focused on San Jose. The hardest thing is knowing they got beat last week on the road at TCU, and knowing they won't be the same team this week that they were last week."
On playing at Rice Stadium again "We have played in six different stadiums in six weeks. This is the first time we'll have a repeat performance in the same stadium. We will enjoy being back home. This is an important game for us, because San Jose beat us last year, which really hurt us in the final analysis."
On the win at Hawaii "We were up 38-13 late in the game, then they got a lot of yardage on their last two drives. Once again defensively, we came up with big plays. We held them right before half; Jason Hebert comes up with a great tackle to keep them out of the end zone, and they miss a field goal. Earlier, they got down to the nine yard line and Greg Gatlin comes up with a great interception in the end zone. Late in the game, they try to go for it on a fourth-and-one at their own 29 and we stuff them. We get the ball back and take it in and score.
"Once again, we came up wtih big turnovers in the game, which I though was critical. "Offensively, we did what we had to do. We had the ball more than 38 minutes, and that gave the defense a chance to be rested when they were chasing all those running backs and receivers around."
