Trevor Putzig is in his second season on the Owls staff, originally coming to South Main in August of 2020 after a season playing in the Baltimore Orioles organization. He will work directly with the Owls catchers and hitters.
Putzig was a star at Tennessee Tech who ranked among the program’s career leaders for hits, home runs, doubles, RBI, and runs scored and capped his career by helping the Golden Eagles to their first NCAA Super Regional appearance in 2018. A two-time Academic All-American who maintained 3.75 GPA, Putzig was named the Tennessee Tech’s Male Athlete of the Year as a senior in 2018 and was drafted in the 17th Round by the Baltimore Orioles that same season.
During his first season at Rice, Putzig worked with the outfielders and hitters. Through his experiences as a minor league player, he presented the benefits of implementing new-aged technology and player development tools to help advance the Rice Baseball program. Putzig led the way when it came to acquiring the purchase of the new Trackman V3 stadium system.
Off the field, Putzig hired a creative social media videographer to improve and manage the team's online presence allowing fans and prospective recruits to become more engaged with Rice Baseball.
Putzig served as the director of Rice’s 2021 summer baseball camps, overseeing player development and personnel while assisting with the camps' planning, scheduling, instruction, and skill development phases. He also managed various high school tournaments throughout the summer.
Additionally, Putzig collaborated with professors in the Sports Management program at Rice, offering summer internships to provide pre and post-game feedback to the players and coaching staff using Trackman data. They also assisted in the event management duties and necessary day-to-day requirements in running successful camps and tournaments.
