Sarah enters into her fifth season with Rice University Sports Medicine Department, joining the team in Spring 2018. She currently serves as the Assistant Athletic Director of Medical Services & Research and she responsible for managing the health care of Rice Swimming & Cheer.
Sarah is a graduate of Illinois State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training. During her undergraduate experience at Illinois State, she worked primarily with the Illinois State University’s football, women’s swim and dive and women’s basketball programs. She received her Master of Education degree in High and Post-Secondary Education from the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University, where she worked as the Certified Athletic Trainer with the men’s and women’s swim and dive teams. Sarah also had the opportunity to intern with the WNBA Chicago Sky during the 2011 season.
Prior to her time at Rice, Sarah was an athletic trainer and Community Outreach Coordinator at Banner University Medical Center – Phoenix (BUMCP) Sports Medicine & Concussion Center from 2015-2018. While at Banner, her roles included coordinating the BrainStamp concussion baseline testing program, advocating for comprehensive concussion care for a variety of athletes through coordination of care as a physician’s extender in the clinic, along with producing community concussion education and continuing education for athletic trainers throughout Arizona.
Sarah’s professional interests include mild traumatic brain injury and sports-related concussion and she is an active researcher, guest lecturer and an educator in the field. She has participated in research teams exploring the utility of novel neuro-vestibular concussion testing and sport-specific mild traumatic brain injury including professional mixed martial arts and baseball. Schodrof credits the extraordinary clinicians who mentored her and her experience at the BUMCP Sports Medicine & Concussion Center for inspiring a continued academic passion in concussion research. Through her tenure at Rice, she has been privileged to continue her research pursuits alongside esteemed collaborators from the Rice Neuroengineering Initiative and the Houston Methodist Concussion center and Neurological Institute.
Sarah is currently a member of the National Athletic Training Association (NATA), College Athletics Trainer Society (CATS), Association of Ringside Physicians (ARP), American Society of Orthopedic Technicians (ASOP), University Risk Management & Insurance Association (URMIA) and Women Leaders In College Sports. In addition, she currently serves as Rice Athletics’ Vision for Victory Goal 4 Co-Chair, the Athletics Representative for the Rice University Student Insurance Committee and Administrative Director for Conference USA Directors of Sports Medicine/ Athletic Training and Medical Advisory/ Physician’s Committees. She currently resides in Houston with her partner, Ryan and Labradoodle, Boss.
