Danyelle Grant enters her fourth season with the Owls in 2024-25 after arriving to South Main back in May 2022.
The 2024-25 season saw the Owls advancing to the AAC Championship game in back-to-back seasons, upsetting the overall top seed and regular season champion UTSA in the quarterfinals. One of Grant's positional players, Sussy Ngulefac, earned AAC All-Tournament Team honors and also secured her 1,000th career point during the tournament.
The Owls capped off a historic season in 2023-24, claiming Rice Athletic's first-ever AAC title in the debut season in the conference. The Owls won four games in four days to earn Rice's fourth-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament and first since 2019, where the Owls fell to then-defending national champions LSU in a hard-fought 70-60 defeat. All-Conference Third Teamer Malia Fisher was named AAC Tournament MVP while Destiny Jackson and Sussy Ngulefac were also named to the All-Tournament Team.
In her first season with the Owls, Rice saw a historic start with an undefeated non-conference slate at 9-0. Grant helped the Owls achieve the third-highest win total for a season at 23 and also was crucial for the Owls postseason win at BYU in the WNIT First Round. Rice finished the season 23-9 and made the C-USA quarterfinals. Malia Fisher and Ashlee Austin both earned selections to the All-C-USA Second Team.
Grant spent the 2021-22 season as an assistant coach at USC, where she served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator and two games as the acting head coach.
Prior to her stint in Los Angeles, Grant served six years (2015-21) as an assistant coach at Utah, helping lead the Utes to three postseason appearances and its first 20-win season under head coach Lynne Roberts. With Grant's tutelage, the Utes also set a program record for three-pointers made in a single-season and she helped develop the Utah point guards into some of the top assist providers in the conference.
Before her time at Utah, Grant spent one season at TCU (2014-15) as video coordinator and a combined four seasons in an assistant coach role at Fresno State (2012-14) and Utah State (2010-12).
A 2009 Utah State graduate, Grant (maiden name Snelgro) was the school's first all-conference First Team honoree. She remains ranked third all-time in assists (336) and steals (216) at Utah State and is eighth in career points (1,045). A native of Alta Dena, Calif., Grant played professionally in Finland in 2009-10.
Grant received her BA (Inter-disciplinary Studies) from Utah State in 2009 before earning a Masters of Liberal Arts from TCU in 2015.
