Dan Kratz (MA, LPC, CMPC) is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas as well as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP). Dan has over three decades of experience in sports as a student-athlete, coach, sport psychology consultant, and mental health counselor with 11 years of work experience within different collegiate settings. Dan prides himself in making mental health conversations non-threatening and creating an environment that promotes peak performance for student-athletes from any background.
Previously, he was a Mental Health Clinician with the Iowa State University Athletics Department. At ISU, Dan worked with student-athletes, coaches, sports medicine staff, and administration in multiple sports to provide counseling, consulting, programming, and creating policy regarding athletic-informed mental health and sport psychology.
Prior to Iowa State, Dan was a Professional Counselor I working as an LPC Associate in the Student Affairs Department at Texas A&M University at Galveston, working with both the general student population as well as the Texas A&M Maritime Academy. Dan was on board the Training Ship Kennedy with the Texas A&M Maritime Academy for their Summer Sea Terms as the counselor on board their journey across the open water to various ports around the globe.
Before making the transition to mental health and sport psychology, Dan coached men’s basketball at NCAA Division II West Texas A&M University, where he was a part of the winningest men’s basketball program in all three levels of NCAA for a two-year stretch. At WTAMU, Dan also worked as an Assistant Director of Recreational Sports, Psychology Intern with Student Counseling, and Graduate Assistant with Advising Services while earning his master’s degree.
Dan received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Communications from Carroll University, where he competed as a varsity basketball player. Dan also played basketball at Winona State University in Minnesota before transferring to Carroll University.
Dan enjoys watching the NBA, wearing various SpongeBob socks, going for runs, and battling the Houston humidity by remembering the northern winters in Wisconsin and Iowa.
