Corey Bell Jr. joined the Owls as the Associate Strength & Conditioning Coach in January of 2025 after four seasons as the Associate Director of Strength & Conditioning at Charlotte.
A former FBS cornerback who played in 27 games at North Carolina under national championship head coaches Mack Brown and Gene Chizik and former head coach Larry Fedora from 2015-19. The Tar Heels were 11-1 and ranked 10th in the final 2015 CFB Playoff rankings. He was a wide receiver from 2016-18, which included the 2016 Sun Bowl vs. Stanford, before moving to wide receiver in his final season. Bell graduated from UNC in 2019 with degrees in both Exercise & Sports Science and Communications.
He began his coaching career as a strength & conditioning intern at LSU under 3-time National Champion S&C Coach Tommy Moffitt., working primarily with the Tigers' defensive backs in the spring and summer of 2021.
He volunteered at Jet Performance Labs in the fall of 2021, assisting current Arizona Cardinals Assistant In the fall of 2021, Bell assisted current Arizona Cardinals Assistant S&C Coach Jason Benguche at a private facility before joining the staff at Charlotte in December of 2021; first under S&C Coach Chris Laskowski, followed by Lewis Caralla. He also assisted in other roles at Charlotte such as coaching the cornerbacks in the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He also assisted with team Bible studies from 2022 to 2024 during his time at Charlotte.
Bell was ranked as the 24th-best player in North Carolina after his senior season at Hough High School. His father, Myron Bell, was drafted by Pittsburgh in the fifth round of the 1994 draft out of Michigan State as a safety and played eight seasons in the NFL. He made 39 starts in his career, including Super Bowl XXX when the Steelers lost to Dallas, 27-17.
