Coaching stops in the SEC and Big 12
Dunlevie Family Head Football Coach Scott Abell announced on Thursday that Tevin Madison will join his staff as the Owls' new cornerbacks coach.
Madison joins the Owls after spending one season at Alabama, where he worked as a defensive analyst and helped coach the Crimson Tide's corners as Alabama reached the College Football Playoff and developed Dijon Lee into a Freshman All-American.
"We are so excited to add Tevin to the Rice Family," Dunlevie said. "During the interview process, Tevin really stood out with his ability to teach and develop our players. He's the perfect fit for the program we're building, and we're so excited to officially welcome him to Rice."
Prior to the start of last season, Madison assisted with the Houston Texans' Training Camp as part of the Bill Walsh Diversity Fellowship.
A native of Fayette, Alabama, Madison began his collegiate career at Texas Tech, playing in 32 games from 2014 through 2016 and intercepting a pair of passes, before finishing his career at West Alabama in 2017, where he earned DII All-America, All-Region, and All-Gulf South Conference honors. He led the team and was second in GSC with five interceptions. He played for the Iowa Barnstormers of the Indoor Football League in 2019 before retiring.
He began his coaching career at Southeast Missouri State as an assistant defensive backs coach, as the Redhawks finished with a 4-2 conference record, tying for second in the Ohio Valley Conference.
He moved to the Big 12 in 2022, where he was a defensive graduate assistant at Kansas State in a season that saw the Wildcats defeat TCU to win the conference title and face Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.
He coached cornerbacks at Illinois State for two seasons (2023-24) and was named by Our Coach Network as one of their 30 Under 30 in 2023.
