Owls Set for NCAA Outdoor Championships

EUGENE – The Rice women's track and field team readies for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon, with Julia Johannesdottir, Alice Taylor and Mckyla Van der Westhuizen to represent the Owls starting Thursday.
Van der Westhuizen leads the Owls to the championship meet for the fourth consecutive season, coming off back-to-back First Team All-American showings. Van der Westhuizen was second at prelims with a throw of 57.09m, and was seventh at last year's NCAA championship and had a third-place outing back in 2024.
Taylor qualified for the NCAA Championships for the third consecutive season and is a first-time qualifier in the heptathlon. Taylor's 5712 points in the heptathlon to win the American Conference title ranks 17th in the NCAA.
Johannesdottir advanced to the NCAA Championship for the first time in her career in the 100m hurdles. Johannesdottir qualified after finishing 12th at prelims with a time of 13.07s.
