HOUSTON — Rice Men's Basketball Rob Lanier has announced coaching staff changes for the upcoming 2026-27 season, Thursday afternoon.
Josten Crow will now have the title of Associate Head Coach. Crow has served under Lanier the last four seasons, including the last two at Rice.
"Josten is a pro," said Lanier. "The way he has come in and fit with our staff so seamlessly is a testament to his professionalism and work ethic. Our players will benefit from his passion and knowledge. He is a tremendous teacher, a strong recruiter, and a future head coach. We are so fortunate to have Josten and his family in our program."
Tyler Dawson will begin his third year in the program, but first as an Assistant Coach after spending the last two seasons as a Graduate Assistant, where he served as Video Coordinator and helped with scouting and analytics.
Prior to South Main, Dawson served as an Assistant Coach for two years at St. Thomas. While there, he helped the Celts to a 54-15 record, two conference championships, and a pair of NCAA Division III Tournament appearances.
"Tyler is a tremendous worker," said Lanier. "He is extremely organized and very, very bright. I am excited to be a part of his growth as he steps into this new role, because he has so much to offer as a coach. He is so good that we had to have him back in a full-time capacity. I'm excited that I was able to elevate Tyler to Assistant Coach as the program will be better because of it."
Jack Schoemann takes over as Assistant Athletic Director for Basketball Operations after spending the last two seasons as Special Assistant to the Head Coach.
"The one thing that comes to mind about Jack is that he gets it," added Lanier. "He is one of those young people that came in prepared to take on significant responsibilities. The more you give him, the more you realize how much you can trust him. We are fortunate to have him at Rice."
Gabe Ramos takes over as Director of Player Development after spending the last two seasons as a Graduate Assistant. Prior to that, Ramos spent five years at McAlester College, where he averaged 9.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists, earning All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors in 2021-22.
"Gabe is a work horse. Nobody puts in more time to make this program better than him. He is diligent, committed, and so good overall, that once he was done with graduate school, I felt compelled to ke him and make him a part of our staff full-time."
