HOUSTON – The 67th Ralph O'Connor Rice Invitational has been moved up one day due to potential inclement weather, with play now beginning Thursday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
The tournament was originally scheduled to begin Friday at 11 a.m., but out of an abundance of caution, the event will now open Thursday with Rice facing DePaul at 2:30 p.m.
DePaul and UAB will meet in a neutral-site match Friday at 3 p.m., and the invitational will conclude with Rice taking on UAB on Saturday at a time to be determined.
The Owls are seeking their 25th all-time win at the Rice Invitational. DePaul is making its first appearance in the tournament, while UAB returns after competing last season.
The Rice Invitational celebrates its 67th year and marks the seventh installment as the Ralph O'Connor Rice Invitational, honoring the longtime supporter who played a significant role in Rice tennis since arriving in Houston in the early 1950s.
Rice faces DePaul for the first time in program history and leads the all-time series against UAB 9-3. The Owls defeated UAB 4-0 during the 2024 season en route to claiming the tournament title.
Rice enters the weekend 4-6 overall and is coming off a 4-3 loss to No. 8 Baylor on Monday in its home opener.
