HOUSTON – No. 25 Rice rallied from an early deficit to defeat Grambling State 3-1 on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Holloway Field in the Owls' non-conference finale. Rice moves to 7-1-1 (1-0-1 American) while GSU falls to 2-6-1 (0-0 SWAC).
How It Happened
The Lady Tigers opened the game with a goal just five minutes in as the Owls had to work from behind early. It wasn't until just under the 37-minute mark when Rice would even the score off a penalty kick goal from Leah Chancey. The two sides remained tied at the half.
GSU fended off a furry of corner kicks from Rice to open the second half, but in the 63rd minute, the Owls took the lead off a corner from Chancey finding Jadyn Jaeger for the goal. 10 minutes later, another Chancey corner found the back of the net, this time from Eileen Albers who headed the ball home. Rice held on for the 2-1 win.
