Owls Advance Three in Invite Singles

Ashar, Ponce, and Chica
Anushka Ashar, Valentina Ponce, and Daniela Chica each advance to the semifinals in their respective singles flights, while Rice split four doubles matches on the first day of action at the Rice Fall Invitational at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Friday.
Ashar, Ponce, and Chica each won in straight sets with Chica picking up her first victory as an Owl. After the final round of doubles at 9 a.m. on Saturday, the second round of singles will get underway at 10 a.m. at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
Darya Schwartzman and Uma Bakaityte will begin play in the singles pre-qualifying on Saturday at the ITA Women's All-American in Cary, North Carolina. Schwartzman will take on Catherine Goldman of Delaware State, while Bakaityte will make her collegiate debut against UCLA's Ahmani Guichard.
