Jenkins Sparks RIce Past Prairie View

First Rice QB to rush for over 100 yards since 2012
How it Happened: Prairie View started quickly out of the gate, scoring on its second drive of the night after holding Rice to -8 its opening possession, but the Owls responded with scoring drives on their next four possessions of the half while holding the Panthers to 11 yards. Jenkins ran for 36 of the 68 yards Rice needed to tie the game, including the final three yards for the score. Faced with a fourth and four at their own 48 on their next possession, the Owls turned to slot receiver Aaron Turner who took a pitch back from Jenkins on a reverse play and sprinted through several Panther defenders to put Rice ahead to stay. Andrew Awe and Chibby Nwajuaku combined on a sack to force another Prairie View, and Jenkins immediately went back to work, leading a nine-play, 49-yard drive, ending when Quinton Jackson squeezed across the goal line from one yard out. Enoch Gota closed out the first half scoring by nailing a career-long, 49-yard field goal just before halftime. Jenkins and crew picked up right where they left off before halftime, hitting Landon Ransom-Goelz with a 34-yard scoring pass for his first career touchdown pass to give the Owls points on five consecutive pos sessions. Drew Devillier took over for Jenkins midway through the fourth quarter and made it a pair of first-career touchdown passes for the Owls, connecting with Tyson Thompson for a 22-yard score.
Up Next: Rice has a short week ahead, as the Owls will open American Conference play on the road on Thursday when they face Charlotte at 6:30.
