HOUSTON — Thirteen games, including seven inside Tudor Fieldhouse, highlight the 2025-26 Rice Men's Basketball non-conference schedule, the program announced Thursday afternoon.
"We are excited about the challenges our non-conference schedule offers," said Rice Head Coach Rob Lanier. "It is going to take us to some outstanding venues where we will get to experience some of the best environments in all of college basketball. It will also pit us against some of the most well-established coaches in our game, as well as some the game's up and coming leaders. The schedule, overall, represents the next step in our progression as a program."
The season begins at home for the third straight year and the fourth time in the last five years when it hosts the College of Biblical Studies on Nov. 4, the first-ever meeting between the schools.
Rice then takes to the road for the first time on Nov. 7 when it travels to Big Ten foe Oregon. It is the fifth meeting all-time and the first since 2006, and the first against a Big Ten opponent since facing Northwestern in 2000.
The Owls return to Tudor for a pair of games against Southland Conference opponents, beginning Nov. 11 against Stephen F. Austin. It will be the 20th meeting between the teams and the first since 2017. Rice then hosts East Texas A&M on Nov. 14. It is the eighth meeting between the teams, but the first since 1968.
Rice then plays four of the next five games on the road, beginning Nov. 17 at SEC foe Tennessee. The Owls are 3-1 all-time against the Volunteers. It will be their first meeting since 1963, and the first against an SEC opponent since opening the 2019-20 season at Arkansas.
Rice then heads to Estero, Fla., for the Gulf Coast Showcase, Nov. 24-26, where the Owls will play three games in three days. The schedule and opponents will be released at a later date.
The Owls begin December with three straight home games, beginning Dec. 3 against Texas State, as they meet for the fourth time in the last five years. Following a break for exams, Rice hosts Sun Belt Conference regular season champion Arkansas State on Dec. 13. Last year, the Owls earned a 75-67 victory over the Red Wolves at the Nassau Championship.
Rice closes the homestand on Dec. 17 when it hosts Southwestern Christian. The non-conference slate concludes on Dec. 20 when they travel to Malibu, Calif., to face Pepperdine.
The Owls return seven players from last year's squad, while welcoming 10 newcomers.
