Seven Owls Named to NABC Honors Court

HOUSTON — The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced its annual Honors Court with the Owls tying a school-record with seven student-athletes earning the distinction, the organization announced.
Trae Broadnax, Alem Huseinovic, Emory Lanier, Trey Patterson, Jackson Peakes, Caden Powell, and Jalen Smith were all named to the Honors Court.
The men's basketball team has also earned the NABC's Team Academic Excellence Award for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards recognize programs that completed the 2024-25 academic
year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The NABC Honors Court, meanwhile, includes junior, senior and
graduate student men's basketball players who finished the 2024-25 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2
or higher.
Broadnax led the team with 12.1 points and 4.2 assists per game, and was second with 5.1 rebounds. He connected on 74.3% from the free throw line, and led the team in assists 26 times and scoring nine times, which were both team-highs. Broadnax scored double-figures 24 times, and ranked fifth in the AAC in assists and ninth in assist/turnover ratio (1.7).
Huseinovic was named to the NABC Honors Court for the second straight year. He averaged 7.9 points, and tied for the team lead with 22 steals. He connected on a team-high 37.8% from three, which was ninth in the conference, and was second on the team with 59 three-pointers.
Lanier averaged 3.9 points and 2.2 rebounds. He tied for the team lead with 22 steals, and was the first player off the bench a team-high 14 times.
Patterson averaged 3.8 points and 4.3 rebounds in 10 games before his season was cut short due to injury. Peakes saw action in seven games, making his first career start against Wichita State. Smith did not see action as he redshirted.
Powell was second on the team with 10.4 points and led the team with 7.2 rebounds, 1.0 blocks, and a 56.5% field goal percentage. He ranked fourth in the conference in offensive rebounds (3.1), sixth in field goal percentage (.565), seventh in rebounding (7.2), 12th in blocks (1.0) and double-doubles, and 14th in defensive rebounds (4.2).
Located in Kansas City, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve and enhance the sport. The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches.
