HOUSTON — Rice volleyball head coach Genny Volpe has announced the completion of the 2025 coaching staff with the hiring of Taylor Stallman as assistant coach.
"I'm very excited to announce the addition of Taylor to our staff," Volpe said. "I believe his experience and success on the men's side will add value and new insight to our training. The more I spoke to Taylor and the people that have worked with him, I could tell he was the right choice. He will bring positive energy, a collaborative attitude, and a strong passion for the game. He enjoys the process of developing players and ran a very successful program at Benedictine University, so he knows what it takes to win championships and the importance of team culture. I believe that his goals and core values aligns with ours here at Rice, and I look forward to working with him."
Stallman comes to South Main from the Air Force Academy, where he coached and learned under Macey Donathon, a former All-American at Arizona State. Stallman was responsible for practice coordination, scouting, and recruitment while at Air Force.
"I'm thrilled to be joining the coaching staff at Rice!" Stallman said. "Rice has a prestigious reputation, and its commitment to excellence in academics and athletics is unmatched.
"I would like to thank Coach Volpe for this opportunity. She is highly regarded in the volleyball community, and the chance to work alongside her is a privilege. I look forward to collaborating with the staff and the student athletes to help continue this legacy of success. I can't wait to get in the gym and be a part of the community of South Main. Go Owls!"
Before Air Force, Stallman coached at Benedictine University in Mesa, Ariz., where he spent four years as the head coach of the men's volleyball team. During his tenure, the Redhawks compiled an 80-24 record, three undefeated seasons in conference play, three California Pacific Conference titles, and three appearances in the NAIA Championship match. The team was routinely ranked in the top five of the NAIA national polls, including a No. 1 ranking during the 2023 season.
A two-time Cal Pac Coach of the Year, Stallman was selected as the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Coach of the Year in 2023 and the NAIA Coach of the Year in 2022. He was also recognized as one of the AVCA's 30 Under 30 in the 2022 Class.
Stallman joined BenU following a stint as coach and director of the AZ Fear Volleyball Club. During his 10 years with the club, he led his team to the Boys Junior National Championship (BJNC) in 2018, a BJNC national runner-up finish in 2019, and a Bronze Medal in 2021. He also served as a graduate assistant at Ottawa University and worked with the women's program at Mesa Community College, where he helped the team to a regional championship in 2017.
Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, Stallman spent five years at Boulder Creek High School, serving as an assistant coach from 2013-16 and the head coach in 2017. During his time on the bench, BCHS won three Arizona 6A Division I state championships (2014, 2016, 2017). He has continued to mentor at the prep level in Arizona, serving as an assistant at Casteel High School in 2023, when they won the 5A state championship.
Stallman, who is married to Rachel Stallman, received a bachelor's degree in special and elementary education from Grand Canyon University in 2018.
