AAC announces 2025 football schedule
Dunlevie Family Head Football Coach Scott Abell will make his AAC coaching debut in familiar surroundings as the Owls will open their 2025 conference schedule on Thursday, September 18, in Charlotte, North Carolina, against the Charlotte 49ers.
Abell joined the Owls after seven seasons as the head coach at Davidson College which is located just outside Charlotte. He and the Owls open the season on the road as the Owls kick off the 2025 campaign against the University of Louisiana. He makes his Rice Stadium debut in the Bayou Bucket Classic with Houston on September 6 and remains on familiar ground the following week by hosting Prairie View on September 13.
The 2025 American Athletic Conference schedule opens with Rice on the road for three of the first four conference games. After opening in Charlotte, the Owls will return on the road the following week to face Navy. They will open their home conference slate the following week by hosting Florida Atlantic at Rice Stadium and then return to the road the following week to take on UTSA.
After an open week, the Owls will play four consecutive home games, including a non-conference meeting with UConn on October 25 and conference games with Memphis for a special Friday Night Halloween game, UAB on November 8, and North Texas on November 22.
The 2025 conference regular season closes with a road game vs. South Florida on Saturday, November 29.
The 2025 conference slate features five of the eight teams that represented the American Athletic Conference in postseason play: Memphis, Navy, South Florida, North Texas, and UTSA.
Kickoff times and television designations for the first three weeks of the season, as well as the season-long weeknight games, will be finalized by June 1. The rest of the schedule will follow the customary 12-day and six-day selection processes. Game selections for annual campus events such as Families Weekend and Homecoming 2025 will be announced shortly.
For those interested in season tickets, pricing can be found here. Current season ticket members will go through the auto-renew process on March 19th. Those interested in new season tickets can purchase a deposit. Fans who purchase a season ticket deposit will receive priority access to season tickets after auto-renew has been processed and before the general public has access to purchase.
