Awe, Anyanwu, Jackson, Bacchetta and Morris recognized by league coaches
Five Rice Owls were recognized by the American Conference's 14 head football coaches for their performances by being named to the 2025 all-conference team on Tuesday.
Linebacker Andrew Awe, rush end Tony Anyanwu, running back Quinton Jackson, and punter Alex Bacchetta were named to the third team, while linebacker Ty Morris was named honorable mention.
Awe led the Owls with a career-high 101 tackles, which ranked third in the conference and were the most by an Owl since Blaze Alldredge was credited with 102 in 2019. He closed his career with a career-high 14 tackles vs. South Florida.
Jackson led the Owls in rushing (811) and all-purpose yards (1,113). His 164 carries and 811 yards on the ground were the most by an Owl since Jowan Davis in 2014. He caught a 75-yard touchdown pass and scored on a 73-yard run against UConn to become the first Owl and the 11th player at the FBS level since 1996 with a rushing and receiving touchdown of more than 70 yards in the same game.
Anyanwu enjoyed a career year in his lone season on South Main. He led the Owls with five sacks, 42 total pressures, and 30 quarterback hurries and finished with a career-best 53 tackles. He was named to Dave Campbell's Texas Football's midseason All-Texas College Team
Bacchetta finished second in the American by averaging a career-best 44.97 yards on 62 punts. He had a career-high 14 punts of at least 50 yards, and his 44.97 average was the sixth-best single-season total in program history.
Morris led the Owls with a career-high 8.5 tackles for loss and was second on the Owls with a career-best 82 tackles while starting all 12 games and serving as a co-captain.
