Owls Aim for Third Straight CSCAA Open Water Title

SARASOTA, Fla. — The Rice swimming team will compete in the CSCAA National Open Water Championship on Saturday morning.

Ella Dyson, Ava Hamblett, Ava Portello and Sami Johnson will represent the Owls. Rice is the two-time defending champion, having won the title in 2022 and 2024. The Owls were awarded the 2023 championship by default after the event was canceled because of weather.

Dyson, Portello and Hamblett were part of the 2024 victory. Dyson is the two-time defending individual champion; she swam a 1:03:31.40 last season. Hamblett finished fifth and Portello seventh in 2024.

The top five finishers will earn invitations to the USA Swimming 5K Open Water Championship.

Results will be posted at CSCAA.org after all events conclude.
