
Rice Wins Third Straight CSCAA Open Water Championship

SARASOTA, Fla. — The Rice Owls claimed their third consecutive CSCAA Open Water Championship on Saturday morning, continuing its dominance in the event.
Ella Dyson led the Owls by winning her third individual title, finishing first in the 5K open water swim with a time of 56:05.7. Ava Portello placed second with a time of 57:46.7, while Ava Hamblett recorded a top-10 finish in 59:18.0. Sami Johnson also competed for the Owls in the championship field.
"Once again, I was really impressed with how the team raced," head coach Seth Huston said. "Experience goes a long way in open water racing."
The Owls took home the title in 2022 and 2024, while the 2023 event was canceled due to weather.
Rice will wrap up its fall season Dec. 20 at the Florida Atlantic Fun Meet in Boca Raton, Fla.
