Jackson rushes for career-high128 yards
Houston-Quinton Jackson rushed for a career-high 128 yards and Chase Jenkins ran for one touchdown and threw for another, but Florida Atlantic took a 27-21 win at Rice Stadium on Saturday night.
\How it Happened: Jackson gave the crowd of 22,999 something to cheer about before they had settled into their seats, dashing 68 yards for a score on the third play of the game to give Rice a quick 7-0 lead. The score was the earliest Rice has scored in a game since 2016, but Florida Atlantic responded with a pair of touchdowns to take a 14-7 lead after one quarter and extended that lead to 17-7 heading into halftime. Jenkins combined with Drayden Dickmann on a 46-yard touchdown late in the third to close the gap to 17-14, but the visiting Owls extended the lead to 27-14 before Jenkins hit on four straight passes, including a 32-yard catch and run by Aaron Turner, to drive to the FAU two and then covered the last two yards on the ground to draw Rice to within six, 27-21. But any hopes Rice held for a last chance rally were spoiled as Florida Atlantic converted a pair of third downs to run out the clock.
