Men's Tennis Concludes US College Cup, Earns Four Victories on Final Day

TORREON, Mexico - Members of the Rice men's tennis team finished their time in the US College Cup Invitational in Torreon, Mexico, earning four victories in the final day of competition.
Santiago Navarro and Tommy Czaplinski defeated the duo of Alonso and Apltauer from TCU, 6-2, to clinch the Owls' doubles victory for the day. Yair Sarouk and Eduardo Morais fell to the duo of Chan and Quirijns from TCU, 7-6, to split the doubles matches.
The Owls took down three opponents in its singles matches, two from ACU and one from ASU, to round out the weekend in Mexico. Navarro continued his winning ways and took down McDonald from ACU, 7-6, 5-7, 11-9, to clinch the first singles victory of the day. Czaplinski took his second victory of the day by defeating Dutine from ACU by a score of 7-6, 4-6, 10-8. Finally, Rice's final victory came from Morais against Anderson from ASU with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 10-6. Sarouk (6-2, 6-3) and Morais (6-1, 5-7, 10-6) both fell to their opponents from ACU, then Sarouk (6-2, 6-3) and Czaplinski (6-1, 7-6) dropped matches to their opponents from ASU.

The men will return to action next weekend as they travel to Lamar University to take part in the Ron Wesbrooks Invitational.
