Choudrant, La. — Junior Lukas Boandl fired a four-under par 68 to finish -10 and earn his first career victory at the Argent Financial Classic.
Boandl finished two strokes in front of Troy's Nick Fowlkes to become the first Rice golfer to earn medalist honors since Jake Benson took home the 2019 Conference USA Championship. He's also just the fourth golfer in school history to finish a tournament at least -10.
Boandl got off to a strong start with birdies on the second and fourth holes. After two straight pars, he went on a stretch of birdies in five of the next seven holes to sit -7 through 13 holes. A double bogey on 14 followed by a bogey on 16 cut his lead to one. But he closed his round with two straight pars, holding on for the victory.
Rice tied for third-place, along with Little Rock, at +6.
Sophomore Reggie Zhu shot a 74 to finish +3 in a tie for 20th-place. It is his third career Top 20 finish. Freshman Daniel Zou tied for 34th-place at +5 after carding a 75.
Sophomore Jaivir Pande posted a 78 to tie for 71st-place at 11-over par. Fifth-year senior Blake Benson tied for 76th-place after carding a 75 to finish +12, and sophomore Braeden Hoyt, playing as an individual, finished in 91st at +17 after shooting a 76.
Troy won the team competition at -7, three strokes in front of Houston.

"It was an incredible week for Lukas. He really picked apart the golf course and had great command of the golf ball. Overall, it was a pretty good start to the season. We were able to identify some things that we need to work on in practice over the next several weeks. I'm pleased with the fight that the guys showed this week and I'm excited to tee it back up in Colorado next Tuesday."

Rice returns to the links next week, Sept. 17-18, when it travels to Fort Collins, Colo., for the Ram Masters Invitational.
