HOUSTON, Texas — Rice Volleyball head coach Genny Volpe has announced the addition of Georgia Murphy as assistant coach.
"I am extremely excited to announce the addition of Georgia to our coaching staff," Volpe said. "Georgia is not only a local talent from Houston, she is one of the most accomplished collegiate liberos in the country. She had a phenomenal career at the University of Oregon and continues to shine on the professional circuit. Her ability to share her experiences and training, both from a physical and mental standpoint, with our student-athletes is what I am most excited about. She is an extremely competitive yet positive person who will fit in very well with our culture."
Murphy recently completed her rookie season playing professionally for the Orlando Valkyries of the Pro Volleyball Federation, also playing alongside former Rice standout Carly Graham. Murphy was selected in the second round of the 2024 PVF draft after playing five seasons at Oregon, where she twice received AVCA Pacific North All-Region and All-Pac 12 Honorable Mentions. Ranked as the nation's top libero recruit coming out of high school, Murphy tallied 1,989 career digs for the Ducks and helped the team to four straight NCAA tournament appearances, including back-to-back runs to the Elite Eight in 2022 and 2023.
"I am so excited for this opportunity and thankful to Rice and Genny for giving me this chance," Murphy said. "Having played against Rice several times in college, I have first-hand experience of how well-coached and how competitive this program is. I am looking forward to meeting the team and getting started. I am super excited to learn from this great staff and help to support the team in every way that I can."
Originally from The Woodlands, Texas, Murphy graduated from Oregon with degrees in both general science and psychology.
