HOUSTON — Rice men's basketball coach Rob Lanier has announced Monday afternoon the signing of transfer Kellen Amos to a grant-in-aid for the 2024-25 school year.
"Along with his size and significant athletic ability, we are most excited about Kellen's experience." Said Lanier. "Double-digit production on a 24-win team is critical to the mindset we expect him to bring. He's a tremendous talent who has room for growth and we are fortunate to be a part of that."
Amos, a 6-7 guard/forward, comes to South Main after spending the last two years at Central Connecticut State. Last season, he earned Third Team All-Northeast Conference honors after scoring 11.8 points per game and leading the team with 5.2 rebounds per game. He was also sixth in the NEC in blocks per game (1.1) and ninth in free throw percentage (.747).
In his two years at CCSU, he averaged 13.0 points, and 4.3 rebounds while connecting on 42.2% from the field and 71.1% from the free throw line.
Amos began his career at Binghamton. In two years with the Bearcats, he averaged 5.3 points and 2.1 rebounds.
A native of Houston, he was a standout at St. John XXII College Prep. As a senior, he averaged 23.5 points and 6.8 rebounds while connecting on a team-high 73 three-pointers. Amos scored over 1,200 career points and was a two-time first team TAPPS All-District 4-6A selection while earning Honorable Mention All-State accolades.
Amos joins guard Anthony Baston, Jr. (Scottsdale, Ariz.) in the 2024-25 recruiting class.
