
Women's Tennis Falls at SMU, 4-1

DALLAS, Texas — Rice women's tennis fell to No. 39 SMU, 4-1, on Saturday at the Altec Tennis Center.
Doubles: The Mustangs captured the doubles point with wins at the first and third positions of the lineup. Junior Saara Orav and sophomore Darya Schwartzman had battled to a 4-4 gridlock at the second position at the time the point was clinched.
Singles: Rice's high point of the day came from freshman Divna Ratkovic at the second position. Facing the nation's 118th-ranked singles player according to the latest ITA rankings, Ratkovic won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. SMU victories at the first, third and fifth positions, however, clinched the team win for the hosts. At the fourth position, Orav led, 7-6, 3-2, before the match was suspended following the clinching point. Freshman Anushka Ashar battled back from a dropped first set to win the second frame, 6-4, before her match was also suspended entering the final set.
