BOSTON – Eliza Kraule capped off Rice's stay at the NCAA Championships with an outstanding performance, placing fifth in the pentathlon. The finish earns her First Team All-American honors.
This was the first NCAA Championship meet for Kraule and her first All-American honor.
Her 4353 points set a new personal best, a new school record and a new American Athletic Conference record. In three meets this season, she has set a personal best and the school record in the pentathlon at each meet.
Kraule set personal bests in the long jump (6.36m) and 800m (2:22.74). Her mark in the long jump was the top finish for the event.
Last night, Tara Simpson-Sullivan had a strong showing, finishing 12th in the weight throw after entering the meet seeded 15th. The mark earned her Second Team All-American honors.
Reaction - Head Coach Jim Bevan
"Following the pentathlon event-by-event was a true treat. To put together a performance like this in her first national meet is a true testament to Eliza's competitiveness and resilience, while overcoming adversity. She's had three pentathlons this indoor season and has had three consecutive personal bests. Wow, what more can you ask for."
