
Dyson Leads Rice Swimmers at Last Chance Meet

In Brief: Sophomore Ella Dyson led Rice swimming on their lone day of competition at the Last Chance Meet hosted by Texas A&M in College Station.
The Details: In a meet designed to give swimmers a final chance to qualify for national postseason events, Dyson placed first overall in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 16:14.03, narrowly missing the all-time record at Rice by two seconds. With the improved time, Dyson moved from 58th in the NCAA rankings to 37th to possibly qualify for the NCAA championships in the event. Graduate senior Shannon Campbell also placed second in the 1,650 freestyle with a career-best time of 16:24.97, moving her to fourth all-time in the event at Rice. Elsewhere on the day, senior Elizabeth Myers placed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.04. Junior Amelia Kane also placed fourth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:03.76.
Up Next: Qualifying Rice athletes will compete at the CSCAA National Invitational in Ocala, Florida, on Thursday through Saturday, March 14-16.
