The Owls: Rice is 6-6 on the season after a 1-2 showing against ranked competition at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic last weekend. Rice pulled a 4-3 upset over No. 47 Old Dominion for the highlight of the Owls' tournament. After dropping the doubles point, Rice scored four points in singles play courtesy of victories from junior Emir Sendogan, sophomore Kabeer Kapasi, freshman Petro Kuzmenok, and the clinching point from senior Trinity Grear. In the Owls' other two matches on the weekend, the team managed to secure the doubles point against No. 19 Alabama but ultimately fell, 4-1, in the opening-round matchup. Rice lost to No. 26 Middle Tennessee in the consolation final to conclude the tournament.
The Opposition: The Owls and Falcons met for the first time last season on Jan. 20, 2023, when Air Force claimed a 4-3 win in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This season, Air Force is 4-5 with wins over Army, Abilene Christian and Weber State. Rice is 17-14 all-time versus current Mountain West opponents.
