HOUSTON — After leading Rice to a runner-up finish at the Border Olympics, freshman Reggie Zhu was named the American Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.
It is his first career Golfer of the Week honor.
Zhu had the best tournament of his young career, finishing in third-place at -10. He opened the tournament with an even par 72. He followed that up by firing a four-under par 68. Zhu then had the best round of his career, posting a six-under par 66 to tie the lowest round and lowest round to par by a freshman in school history.
His -10 for the tournament also set a freshman record, becoming just the third player in school history to finish a tournament at -10 or better. His performance helped the Owls finish -16 for the tournament, tying the second lowest tournament to par in school history.
