Rice Swimming Closes 2024 in CSCAA College National Open Water Championship

MIAMI, Fla. - Four members of the Rice swimming team will take part in the CSCAA College National Open Water Championship, hosted by Florida International University.
Ella Dyson, Ava Hamblett, Amelia Kane, and Ava Portello will represent Rice in the event on Sunday afternoon.
Rice is the defending champion of the open water championship. With the event being canceled due to weather in 2023, the Owls default as the defending champions, winning the event in 2022.
Dyson and Kane both took part in the Owls victory in 2022, with Dyson posted the best individual time and winning the women's individual championship.
The top five finishers in both the men's and women's events will earn an automatic berth to the USA 5K Swimming Open Water Championships.
There are 60 institutions competing in the meet in total. Scoring is similar to cross country scoring, where the score is tabulated with the top three finisher's places. The team with the lowest overall score is considered the event champion.
Results will be posted on cscaa.org following the conclusion of all events.
