DALLAS, Texas - The Rice Owls swimming and diving teams fell on Saturday morning to SMU in Dallas by a final score of 178-121.
"While the final score is disappointing, we had a lot of positive take aways from our meet today," said head coach Seth Huston. "Our team proved to be resilient. We competed throughout the meet; led by double victories by Ava Portello and Arielle Hayon. We created some momentum heading into our mid season invite in 10 days and that is within our power."
Rice's first victory of the day came in the 200 Yard Freestyle, where freshman Ava Portello notched a first place finish with a time of 1:46.95.
Rice saw its second victory come a few events later from Arielle Hayon, who took first in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 2:00.44.
Portello notched her second victory of the day in the 500 Yard Freestyle, where she earned nine points with a time of 4:49.46. Hayon also followed that with her second victory of the day, finishing the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 53.79, marking the final Rice victory of the day.
