Owls Claim Second Place in Phill Hansel Invitational

HOUSTON - Rice swim and dive concluded the Phill Hansel Invitational with a second place finish thanks to one final top finish on Friday at the University of Houston Natatroium.
In the first event of the day, Ella Dyson claimed the top spot in the 1650 Free with a time of 16:20.86 minute time in the meet, automatically qualifying her for the B standard in the event at NCAAs. Ava Portello, Amelia Kane, and Avan Hamblett all posted top-10 finishes with times of 16:37.43, 16:45.98, and 16:55.09, respectively.
In the 200 Back, Hamblett posted a time of 1:58.31 in the A Final to finish in sixth. Mimi Filkin finished third in the B Final with a time of 1:59.44.
In the 100 Free, Portello was the highest finisher for Rice, posting a time of 51.16 in the B Final. Lizzie Zadel and Filkin both finished in the C Final in first and seventh, with times of 50.57 and 51.76.
Einio Siiri finished with a time of 2:15.96 in the A Final of the 200 Breast, followed by Michaela Koltz's top finish in the C Final of the same event with a time of 2:18.65. Megan Schultze finished fourth in the C Final with a time of 2:21.38.
In the 200 Fly, Arielle Hayon was the top finisher for Rice with a time of 1:58.03, good for fourth in the A Final. Kane posted a time of 2:05.45 to finish in seventh in the B Final. while Sami Johnson was the top finisher in the C Final with a time of 2:02.55.
In the final swimming event of the day, the 400 Free Relay team of Reese Cole, Zadel, Filkin, and Portello finished in fourth with a time of 3:23.10.
In the platform diving event, Megan Phillip placed third in the B Final with a final score of 183.85, improving her placement from 14th in prelims to 11th in the finals. Rylee Coyne finished fourth in the C Final for 20th in the standings with a prelim score of 154.05, which would become her final.
