FORT WORTH, Texas - Rice collected a total of 12 victories over four days of round-robin competition in the TCU Jae Foundation Fall Open in Fort Worth, Texas.
Action began on Thursday as the Owls took on Cincinnati, where the duo of Saara Orav and Anushka Ashar earned Rice's first victory by taking down the tandem of Isabel Pacheco and Milica Popovski, 7-5. In singles play that afternoon, Rice earned four singles victories, starting with Nithesa Selvaraj taking down Guentherf from Cincinnati, 6-0, 3-6, 12-10, followed by Fernanda Martinez taking down Sakurako Watanabe, 6-1, 6-3. Orav followed that up with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Callie Flanagan, and Ashar wrapped up the day with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Morgan Pyrz.
On Friday Rice took part in singles competitions against Maryland, Oklahoma, and Arizona. The Owls took on the Terrapins first, where Martinez earned her second victory of the weekend, this over Oliwia Orlinska, 5-7, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (7). Orav then defeated Diya Challa 6-4, 6-3, then Ashar followed that with a victory over Katherine Hung, 6-1, 6-2, to see the Owls go 3-1 against Maryland. Rice would fall to Oklahoma in one match and Arizona in three matches to end Friday.
Rice took part in four doubles competitions on Saturday, two against Cincinnati and two against Arizona. In the matches against the Bearcats, Rice won one, with the tandem or Martinez and Orav defeating Guenther and Pocheco, 7-5. The tandem of Nithesa Selvaraj and Ashar earned a victory over the Wildcats with a 6-2 decision over the duo of Karissa Ghigiarelli and Danielle Tuhten.
On Sunday, the Owls finished the competition with one doubles match and three singles, going 2-2 with two singles victories. Ashar defeated Gian Octa from Missouri, 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 to claim her final victory of the weekend, and Selvaraj downed Millie Skelton from SMU, 6-3, 6-3, to earn her first singles victory of the weekend.
Rice is back in action this coming weekend with three separate events. Divna Ratkovic will represent the AAC in the ITA Conference Masters in Rome, Ga., from Nov. 7 - 10, while the rest of the Owls will be split in between the ITA Sectionals in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and the Rice Invitational, hosted at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
