Swim Notches Three Top Finishes, Diving Excels in Second Day of Phill Hansel Invitational

HOUSTON - Rice swim tallied three individual first place finishes and several podium finishes, while diving had an excellent showing with both divers placing in the A Final in the one-meter and one in the three-meter A Final on Thursday at the University of Houston Natatorium.
Finals action began with the 200 Medley Relay, where the relay team of Abigail King, Siiri Einio, Arielle Hayon, and Ava Portello finished in fourth with a final time of 1:40.69, just over two seconds behind the first place finishing team from Nevada.
In the following event, Hayon claimed Rice's first individual victory of the day with a final time of 52.28 in the 100 Fly. Jessica Lawton finished fifth in the A Final with a time of 54.61.
Amelia Kane followed that up with an individual victory in the 400 IM, posting a time of 4:15.85 to take the Owls' second-straight victory. Ella Dyson finished in fourth with a final time of 4:19.49, and Reese Cole took the top spot in the B Final with a time of 4:20.20. Sami Johnson claimed the top spot in the C Final with a time of 4:22.31.
In the 200 Free, Portello finished in second place with a final time of 1:47.04 for the Owls' third top-three finish of the day.
The next two events saw Einio finish as the top Owl in the 100 Breast with a final time of 1:03.36, then Mimi Filkin and Ava Hamblett finished in the 100 Back in seventh and eighth with times of 54.89 and 55.78, respectively.
The final swim event of the day saw Rice post one final top finish, as the 800 Free Relay team of Kane, Portello, Hamblett and Filkin posted a final time of 7:17.31 to claim the event.
In the one-meter dive, both Megan Phillip and Rylee Coyne claimed spots in the A Final, with Phillip posting a score of 284.50 to finish fifth, while Coyne posted a score of 212.80 to finish eighth. In the three meter dive, Phillip posted another fifth place finish with a score of 292.35, while Coyne took third in the B Final with a score of 243.55.
The Phill Hansel Invitational will conclude tomorrow, Friday, November 22. The standings after day two can be found below.
