Owls Fall on the Road to No. 16 Memphis

MEMPHIS – The Rice soccer team dropped a road contest to No. 16 Memphis 4-1 Thursday night at the Track and Soccer Complex in Memphis, Tenn. With the loss, the Owls fall to 11-3-2 (5-2-1 AAC) while the Tigers improve to 11-1-2 (6-0-2 AAC).
How It Happened
The Memphis offense put the pressure on early, with Faith Hutchins making several saves in the opening minutes. Soon after, the Tigers found the game's first goal in the 12th minute. Leah Chancey had an open look nine minutes later, but a leaping save by the Tiger keeper kept the Owls off the board. Naija Bruckner had another chance for Rice, but once again, the Memphis defense held strong as Rice trailed 1-0 at the half.
Memphis was able to double up its lead in the opening minutes, but Camille Quarterman had the answer seconds later to cut the lead down to 2-1 with just under 40 minutes to play. However, the Tiger offense proved to be too much tonight, adding two more goals before taking a 4-1 win.
