HOUSTON, Texas — Rice swimming is set for a pair of meets this weekend. The Owls will compete against Houston and Miami at the CRWC Natatorium on Friday, Jan. 26, before returning home to host Miami at the Rice Competition Pool on Saturday, Jan. 27. The Owls will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday against the Hurricanes.
Rice's meet against Houston and Miami is scheduled for Friday at 1:30 p.m. CT and will be available to stream through Houston Cougars All-Access. The Owls and Cougars have competed once already this season at the Rice Fall Splash Invitational alongside Denver, with Houston winning the three-team meet with a score of 436.5 to Rice's 376.5. Rice and Miami will meet for the first time since Rice defeated the then-nationally ranked Hurricanes in October of 2015.
Rice will honor seven senior swimmers on Saturday at the Rice Competition Pool, beginning at 10:20 a.m. CT. The Owls will be celebrating the careers of Lauren Brantley, Mimi Filkin, Briana Gellineau, Lauren Hurt, Imogen Meers, Elizabeth Myers and Hunter Smith. Competition will begin shortly following Senior Day celebrations at 10:30 a.m. CT.
The Owls are fresh off a clean sweep of three AAC opponents at the SMU Duals, defeating each of SMU, North Texas and Tulane in simultaneous duals last weekend. The Owls won 10 out of 19 events, with Meers leading the way with four individual titles plus a victory in the 200-yard medley relay.
Six Rice swimmers currently rank in the top-three of the AAC this season in a total of 15 events, with graduate senior Shannon Campbell (500-, 1,000- and 1,650-yard freestyle) and Meers (100-yard backstroke) each ranking atop the conference. The Owls also rank in the top-three in the AAC this season in the 200-, 400-, and 800-yard freestyle relays.
