Owls Have Terrific Weekend at UH, San Diego

HOUSTON – The Rice women's track and field team had numerous top finishes while claiming several event titles at the Cameron Burrell Alumni Invite at UH and the Triton Invitational at UC San Diego.
Taigen Hunter-Galvan claimed the event title at UH, winning the 3000-meter run. Cici Calhoun had a third-place finish in the 800, while Kennedy Gamble took fourth in the 100. Elena Siemens had a strong showing in pole vault, taking second.
At the Triton Invitational, Tara Simpson-Sullivan opened the meet by claiming the hammer throw title. Mckyla Van der Westhuizen picked up a second-place finish in the college portion (third overall) in javelin. Erna Gunnarsdottir closed the night with a fifth-place showing in shot put (fourth in the college portion).
As a team, Rice had 12 top-10 finishes in the meet, with eight being in the top five.
