Rice Golf Fires Best Round of Day at Conference USA Championship

Texarkana, Ark. — The Rice Golf team fired the best round of the day during the second round of the Conference USA Championship.
The Owls carded a four-under par 284, Rice's second-best round in tournament history, to move into seventh-place at 18-over par.
Graduate student Jay Kirchdorfer tied the best individual round of the day, firing a three-under 69 to move into a tie for fourth-place at two-over par. It is his team-leading 13th round of par or better this year and the 20th of his career. It is also his fifth round in the 60's.
Freshman Lukas Boandl and senior Forrest Park are tied for 17th-place at four-over par. Boandl carded a one-under par 71 while Park posted an even par 72. It is Boandl's ninth round of par or better this year while Park now has four rounds of par or better and six in his career.
Junior Rodrigo Martin tied his season-best, shooting a 72 to sit in a 34th-place tie at eight over par. It is his first round of par or better this year and the 10th round of his career. Junior Blake Benson is in 43rd-place at 11-over par after carding a 75.
Middle Tennessee leads the team competition at three-over par, four strokes in front of Charlotte and Louisiana Tech. MTSU's Owen Stamper leads the individual tournament at two-under par, two strokes in front of teammate Gavin Clements.

The final round of stroke play begins tomorrow at 8 a.m. Rice will begin play at 8:08 a.m. from hole 10 and is paired with student-athletes from UTSA.
