Rice Falls to Florida Atlantic

HOUSTON — Florida Atlantic connected on 17 three-pointers as Rice fell, 103-74, Thursday night at Tudor Fieldhouse.
The Story
Florida Atlantic, who is receiving votes in both the Associated Press and Coaches polls, scored the first nine points of the game before Quincy Olivari hit a three to get Rice on the board. The teams traded baskets over the next four minutes, but FAU went on an 8-0 run. Rice scored eight of the next 13 points to cut the deficit to 30-18 with 9:15 to play in the first half, but Florida Atlantic responded with a 13-0 run. After exchanging buckets, Rice scored seven of nine points. But FAU closed the half on a 10-0 run to lead 57-28 at halftime.
Rice came out and scored the first seven points of the second half. After two FAU baskets, Max Fiedler scored a layup that sent Rice on a 7-0 run and cut the deficit to 63-44. However, Florida Atlantic went on a 12-2 run, pushing its lead back to 73-44. Rice got now closer than 27 points the rest of the way.

Rice was shot 46.3% (25-of-54) from the field and 38.7% (12-of-31). Rice also connected on 92.3% (12-of-13) from the free throw line. Florida Atlantic connected on 53.4% (39-of-73) from the floor and 47.2% (17-of-36) from three. Rice was also outrebounded, 39-to-25.
