
Rice Takes Two Events At New Mexico

The Rice women's track and field team continues to shine this indoor season, taking two events and placing in several others at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic.
Tara Simpson-Sullivan won the weight throw with a season best throw while Erna Gunnarsdottir won the shot put for the second-straight week.
As a team, Rice had eight top-10 finishes in the meet with four finishing in the top five. The Owls competed with a reduced lineup, but will be back to a fuller lineup next week at UH.

"Tara Simpson-Sullivan (weight throw) and Erna Gunnarsdottir (shot put) had season best throws, with Erna's being a personal best, to win their events at the prestigious UNM Collegiate Classic! In addition, Kennedy Gamble had a lifetime best in the 200, breaking the 24 second barrier with a 23.89, while also have a fantastic showing in the 60. Lindsay Simms had a big personal best in the pentathlon, finishing ninth and scoring over 400 points more than her previous best. Ginnie Okafor also had a personal best in the triple jump to finish fifth! I am so excited by the performances this weekend and look forward to getting back next week at UH."
