Rice Finishes Regular Season Strong At UH

HOUSTON – The Rice women's track and field team had another strong showing at the Howie Ryan Invitational, the last meet before next week's conference championships.
The Owls won several events, with Alyssa Balandran winning the 800-meter run, her third event win this season. Caitlin Wosika took the top spot in the mile, with Rice finishing in the top four spots for the event. Lina Spjut rounded out the Rice event winners, finishing first in the 3000.
As a team, Rice had 13 top-10 finishes in the meet with nine finishing in the top five. The Owls competed with a reduced lineup, but will have the full team competing next week at the C-USA Championships.

"Very happy with numerous performances today. Saniya Friendly is coming around and had an outstanding race finishing second in a very good field in the 60 meter. We went 1, 2, 3, 4 in the mile with Caitlin Wosika winning in a new pb and Taigen, Amelie and Ava following with pb's as well. Alyssa won the 800 wire to wore with a new pb as well. Lina Spjut won for the first time in a Rice uniform in the 3000 with Ellie Schweiker finishing third. We are looking forward to putting our whole team together at conference next week. Many of the team were resting or training today as well."
