6-1 win snaps road streak
Beaumont: Rice outlasted Lamar in a tight opening battle in doubles and then raced to take control in singles to take a 6-1 win on Saturday and snap a four-match losing streak.
Doubles: Eduardo Morais and Kabeer Kapasi staked the Owls to an early advantage with a swift win at the third line, but the Cardinals evened the pursuit of the first point with a win at the first line. Santiago Navarro and Campbell Salmon gave Rice it's seventh doubles win in 11 matches with a 6-4 win at the second line.
Singles: The Owls came out firing in singles, winning five of six first sets, of while only losing five combined games. Wes Barnett swiftly added the second point of the day, dropping just one game over two sets and Navarro followed shortly after with his first career singles win in the dual season. Emir Sendogan improved to 9-1 on the season with the clinching singles win at the second line. Kapasi and Salmon then closed out the scoring for Rice with wins at the sixth and fifth lines.
Up Next: The Owls will be back on the road next weekend, facing Portland, #55 New Mexico and Penn in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They will close the 2023 regular season by playing seven of the final eight home matches prior to hosting the Conference USA Championship April 21-23.
