Owls Set School Record at Grier Jones Shocker Invitational

Newton, Kan. — The Rice Golf team carded a final round two-under par to finish 17-under, setting a new school record, at the Grier Jones Shocker Invitational.
The Owls finished in third-place. Their 54-hole score of 847 is also the third lowest in school history.
Graduate student Jay Kirchdorfer fired a 69 to finish 12-under par in second-place, four strokes behind medalist Rayhan Thomas of Oklahoma State. It was his second career runner-up finish. His score of -12 is the second lowest in school history and is 54-hole score of 204 is tied for the second lowest. He has a team-high six rounds of par or better and 26 in his career. He also has four rounds in the 60's and nine in his career.
Junior Raghav Chugh tied for 11th-place at six-under par after carding a 73. Sophomore Lukas Boandl fired a 71 to finish one-under par in a 27th-place tie. It was his team-high sixth round of par or better and the 15th of his career.
Freshman Jaivir Pande tied for 40th-place at three-over par after closing with a 74. Senior Blake Benson posted a 73 to tie for 62nd-place at seven-over par and freshman Braeden Hoyt, playing in his first career tournament, finished nine-over in a tie for 68th-place after shooting a 77.

"I have to give credit to the team. They bounced back from a really tough week and posted -17 in Kansas. The last round conditions were difficult and they powered through. Jay (Kirchdorfer) is really close to getting a win. I think it will happen soon."

The Owls cap off their fall schedule on Oct. 28-29 when they travel to Loxley, Ala., for the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational.
