Road trip ends with match vs. Denver on Sunday
In Brief: Rice opened a two-match road trip to Colorado, dropping a 4-3 decision to Air Force in Colorado Springs on Friday evening.
The Details: The Owls opened strongly by taking their third consecutive doubles point this season, but saw Air Force take the momentum by winning four of six first sets in singles and closed each match out for the win.
Doubles: Rice raced to its third consecutive doubles point by fighting off a pair of early break points and then set the tone with breaks on each court. Dylan Heap and Santiago Navarro closed out their match with a 6-2 win at the first line. Wes Barnett and Trinity Grear then closed out the point with a 6-3 win at the second line. Kabeer Kapasi and Yasha Zemel held a 5-3 lead when the point was clinched.
Singles: Emir Sendogan improved to 4-0 on the season, winning in straight sets at the fourth line and Kapasi picked up his first collegiate dual win with a 6-2, 6-4 win at the sixth line after the Falcons had clinched the match with a win at the fifth line.
Up Next Rice (1-3) wraps up the weekend trip by facing Denver (1-1) on Sunday. The Owls open the 2023 home dual season on January 27 when they host Elon at 1 p.m.
